This
is the device of Froben, a great 16th century printing house of
the Reformation. The caduceus (staff), shown here, is that of
Hermes, Greek messenger of the gods, symbolising wisdom,
intelligence, knowledge. Here it is mounted by a dove, the symbol
of peace. Froben's device indicates that with peace comes wisdom,
and with wisdom, peace.
This, in a sense, represents the ethos of
this department.
