As an institution, UCT is committed to providing a safe workplace for its staff and students, and through its vaccination rollout programme will contribute to reducing transmission within its own population. Most significantly, it will support the orderly and safe return to campus, as a workplace, a place of contact teaching and learning, and a place of engaged research and scholarship.
As UCTL, it will enable us to fulfil our mandate as an academic support service, namely:
providing access to physical and virtual collections and services that directly support the academic and research priorities of the university. This will mean opening up our spaces for use and study by the most vulnerable and marginalised students;
re-introducing use of our designated undergraduate and postgraduate facilities;
resuming our active contributions to the UG 1st year experience including orientation, training in the use of academic and information resources, and assignment support;
reclaiming our long outstanding materials to ensure a dynamic exchange and use of resources.
By doing so we will be:
contributing to the safe re-opening of the University.
a fully functioning academic environment and facilitating a quality academic experience to those students who have been severely compromised by a lockdown education.
a functioning workplace with all the safety and health protocols still in place.
The success of this rests with each one of us. Do the right thing, vaccinate and be safe!
