Solving SA’s literacy crisis

Lack of access to reading material and textbooks are two of the main reasons that 78% of South African children in grade 3 still can’t read for meaning. And education expert Professor Mary Metcalfe says fixing this national literacy crisis will take time and hard work.

New Databases: NewsBank South African News Archive

UCT Libraries has acquired three archive databases which form part of NewsBank’s South African News Archive. Access is available via the Databases list. They are Sowetan 1981-2008Sunday Times 1906-2006 and World Newspaper Archive: African Newspapers Series 2, 1835 -1925.

UCT’s new print solution officially launched

Bytes Document Solutions has officially taken over as UCT’s new printing vendor from 1 January 2019. New Xerox printers are currently being installed across campus in student computing labs, libraries, document centres and departments that will support the new printing solution UCT Managed Print Services (MPS).
