HIV AIDS Archive
Special Collections houses in-depth and significant archives on AIDS. In partnership with Community Media Trust (CMT) we are digitising thousands of hours of video tapes and transcripts that document the history of HIV/AIDS in South Africa. The archive, understood to be the first of its kind in the Southern Africa Development Community states, contains policy, stories, and people’s personal testimonies on AIDS during its manifestation. This project has been generously funded by the Elsevier Foundation. There are also 191 films and videos on HIV/AIDS in our African Studies Collection. Special Collections also houses hundreds of photographs by David Goldblatt, Gisele Wulfsohn, Graeme Williams and Paul Weinberg on the pandemic, that range from campaigns to education, many of which have featured in key exhibitions shown in South Africa and internationally.
